Wisdom Awards Night 2010
The Wisdom Annual Sports Awards was held last week on 19th July 2010 to acknowledge outstanding sporting achievements by wisdom students, in CIMA sports day 2010 . Wisdom became Champions & Runners - up in both Cricket & Net ball.

Parents Gathering 2010
The annual parents gathering of Wisdom Business Academy was held at Sasakawa hall Colomb 03 on the 23rd of January 2010. The chief guest for the evening was Mr. Bradley Emerson the CEO of CIMA Sri Lanka. Mr. Shanil Jayasekara, Direector of WBA; Mr. Chintaka Wijereathne, Operations Manager WBA; Mr. Channa Gunawardena and Mr. Tharindu Amerasekere made up the head table.
The program commenced at 6.00 pm with Mr. Shanil Jayasekara addressing the crowd, on the lecture procedure and student performance at CBA Examinations. Mr. Chintaka briefed the gathering about the registration process with CIMA UK procedure of obtaining drafts and also on the procedure for booking CBA exams and mock exams. The chief guest Mr. Emerson made a presentation on the importance an recognition of CIMA as a professional qualification and of future job opportunities.
The President of the Student Society, Sonnal Siriwardena, then briefed the gathering on the Students Society’s extra curricular activities and upcoming projects. The meeting was also treated to a couple of words from Pasan Katipearachchi who emerged first in the Island in the Commerce stream for the Advanced Level Examinations 2009 on achieving success at examinations. Charith Mendis, prize winner of DM in the May 09 session was awarded with study texts for his future CIMA studies.
The head table was then open for questions and suggestions from the parents gathered, where the parents’ were able to clarify any doubts about CIMA and studying at Wisdom.
The evening was concluded by Mr. Thilak Mendis’s vote of thanks. |

Wisdom Foundation Sports Day 2010

Wisdom being the wisdom companion always compels its students to do something divers. At many scenarios the academy has shown the country that the wisdom students would never incline only towards an academic atmosphere. One of such events was the recent sports day organized by the wisdom foundation sports committee. The sports day was held on the 20th of January 2010at CH & FC grounds . Inaugurating the sports day the president of the sports committee Chirath Perera welcomed all the distinguish guests . Further more he explained the real intention of integrating the students for such a sports day was to consolidate the friendship among them.
After the guest speech of Mr.Chinthaka Wijayaratne, Operations Manager - Wisdom business academy cricket matches commenced . More than thirty teams participated in the cricket tournament . Eventually the two teams "Cash Prize " and 'Bad Boys" persevered to the finals. The team effect of cash Prize comprising students of batch one culminated in the in the cricket championship. Shasan Passel was awarded as the best cricketer.
Rugby being the game of youth captivated most of the spectators hearts. Eight teams took part in the rugby match series. Ultimately "Ayyala" representing batch 2 and "Day dreamers" from batch one got the opportunity to participate in the finals. " Day Dreamer" Played conspicuously and won the championship wielding their power. Thilina Wijayarathne who played ostentatiously was given the award for the best ruggerite. Not only men's cricket but also women's cricket enhanced the beauty& grandeur of the sports day. The finals of woman's cricket championship was held between "Bring it on losers" & "Cobra Stickers". "Bring it on losers" of batch one conquered victory.
Net ball was another fantastic sports event which stimulated the wisdom sports day " Seven cups" of part time batch triumphed over "success" who represented batch one. The best net ball player Madukhi Nanayakkara shoed the spectators that she was a net ball whizz-kid.
Through out the sports day the fraternity of the students of the foundation batch was articulated . There was a proliferation of students for the fun events organized by the committee meanwhile the teams were competing with each other.
The tree legged derby,water passing game & balloon dancing relished fatigued students. Especial prizes were given to the winners of these events. Almost all the spectators went into raptures about the fun events as well as about the games.
As soon as the secretary of the sports committee Hasini Perera gave the vote of thanks every one stared at each other in consternation. But the imminent DJ party refreshing the delirious students reinforced them to compensate their exhaustion. This great phenomena assimilated the students the value of unity and being a member of " Wisdom Family"
This sports day also co-operated wisdom business academy to manifest itself in different forms both in academic & extra carricular activities

The Wisdom night 2009

The Wisdom night 2009 was yet another outstanding event organized by the Student’s Council. As it is the annual Dinner Dance that brings together all the students from different levels from the academy to get together.
Mr. Thilak Mendis (Patron, Wisdom Student’s Society) with the help of the Wisdom Student’s Society and the other members of the committee headed by President Sonnal Siriwardena organized this event in a very successful manner in a more extravagant sense than the previous occasions.
The event was held on the18th December 2009, at Park Premier, Excel World and a huge crowd was present including some of our lecturers and most of the staff.
Mr. Hasitha Premerathne was recognized for becoming the CIMA lecturer of the year, 2009 and tokens of appreciation were also given to students who have made wisdom proud by achieving the highest marks at the past two examination sessions. Mr. Thilak Mendis was recognized for his tremendous contribution towards the Wisdom Students and the Students’ Society activities.

Wisdom Awards Night 2009

October 30th 2009 was a memorable day for Wisdom Business Academy. It was a day of celebration and merriment where team work and sportsmanship was duly recognized and appreciated.
The joyous celebrations were in recognition of the success the Wisdom Business Academy’s sports team led by Games Captain Pramod Wickramsinghe under the guidance of Sonal Siriwardene President Wisdom Student Society, enjoyed at the recently held CIMA Sports Day 2009 organized by the CIMA Student Society.
The Wisdom Business academy sports team beat opponents from Achievers, ICBS, Mercury Institute of Management, MAS Holdings, WNS, PWC, SJMS and few other corporate sector establishments to emerge winners in three of the games they took part in. This includes tap rugby, net ball and six a side cricket.
Wisdom Business Academy created history when their triumphant team also won the coveted trophy awarded for Overall Champions of CIMA Sports Day 2009 for the second consecutive time in the history of CIMA Sports day records. To top it all off, the Wisdom Students also won the Best Decorated tent award at the CIMA Sports Day final judgment.
The gala awards ceremony which has held at the strategy room of the Wisdom Business Academy among a gathering of distinguish guests, faculty members and fellow students saw the talented Wisdom Business Academy Sports Team being awarded a certificates of appreciation for their participation and sportsmanship while the victorious teams representing tap rugby, net ball and six a side cricket were honored with gold medals.
The awards were handed out by Guest of Honour Bradley Emerson, Regional Director, South Asia and Middle East CIMA UK.
Malik de Silva Director/ Senior Lecturer of Wisdom Business Academy believes in nurturing the leaders of today, therefore students are encouraged to pursue extra curricular activities along with their higher education.

Wisdom Business Academy – The Largest CIMA Education Institute in Sri Lanka, has once again lived up to its reputation of achieving top pass rates as per the results released by CIMA-UK for the May 2009 examination. Known for its strong focus on coaching and mentoring students in a structured and deadline-oriented manner, the academy’s approach has notched it further up with the successes of its students.
With the prime aim of grooming qualified management accountants in Sri Lanka, Wisdom Business Academy started its operation in 2002 and since then, Wisdom has grown to evolve as a preferred tutoring centre to nurture the CIMA professionals of the future, while enriching the learning experiences and bridging the skills between employer expectations and employee performance. In doing this, it was mentored the finest performance levels within the industry and delivered the foundations for its students to shine at their best. Personal transformation is fortified with beyond classroom learning and the successes of its methods are reinstated by the consistency in its student’s successes at claiming Sri Lanka and world prizes throughout the years.
Wisdom Business Academy has produced 76 Sri Lanka prize winners and 7 world prize winners while its pass rates have shown steady improvements consistently over the years.
At the May 2009 CIMA examination, Wisdom students Mr. Charith Mendis and Mr. Praveen Muthuthanthri were successful in showcasing their mettle by winning joint Sri Lanka prize for Management Accounting Decision Management (P02), where they were coached by Mr Hasitha Premaratne, the most sought after lecturer for this subject in Sri Lanka. Mr. Upul Tennakoon has secured the Sri Lanka Prize for Management Accounting Performance Evaluation (P01) under the guidance of Mr. Sugeeth Patabendige, who is popularly known as the best lecturer for PE. Both Mr Hasitha Premaratne and Mr. Sugeeth Patabendige have consistently outperformed the pass rates for their respective subjects and have produced many prize winners as well. Mr. Mallik De Silva and Mr. Akalanka Saparamadu, the two dynamic lecturers teaching Financial Analysis (P08) have been successful in coaching Ms. Tharani Gamage to attain the glory of the Sri Lanka prize for FA. These two lecturers are probably the best lecturers for Financial Analysis, having hands-on industry exposure, which definitely helps the students to understand the complex practical areas of the subject matter. Since May 2007, Wisdom is proud to claim the Sri Lanka Prize for Organisational Management and Information Systems (P04) in almost all exam diets and in May 2009, Ms. Varuni Wakwella secured the glory of Sri Lanka prize under the guidance of Mr. Gishan Sumanasiri and Mr. Nishan Perera.
As per the official results release from CIMA UK for May 2009, Wisdom has outperformed international pass rates in majority of the subjects while other subjects have performed with above average pass rates. With this excellent pass rates and outstanding performance achieved by our students speaks volume. Should we say more? |

Wisdom Business Academy – rules CIMA Sports Day 2009
CIMA Sports Day 2009 was recently concluded amidst a large gathering of its past and present students. The event was organised by the CIMA Student Society (CIMASS) and was hosted at the Old Racecourse Grounds. Making a comeback after a lapse of four years, the event targeted participation in Individual, Institutional as well as Mercantile Categories that were well-represented by students and passed finalists of CIMA, from CIMA Educational Institutes as well as top-notch corporates.
CIMA Institutional participation this year was from Wisdom Business Academy, Achievers, ICBS, and Mercury Institute of Management, while MAS Holdings, WNS, PWC, SJMS and few other corporate sector establishments took part representing the mercantile sector. In addition there were very strong individual teams also taking part in the event. The main games at the CIMA Sports Day 2009 were Cricket, Tap Rugger, and Netball while the organizers have arranged the selections in few rounds, selecting the winning teams in Trial rounds, Quarter finals and Semi-finals. Wisdom Business Academy represented their teams in all sports categories where most of the other teams also took part in one or more sports.
After few very close games with other institutional teams, Wisdom Netball team – A, became the Champions for Netball while the Wisdom Netball team – B secured the Runners-up position. Next was the Cricket tournament where more than 30 teams took part and with a very tight battle with many institutional teams Wisdom and Achievers came for the final round, where Wisdom team defeated the Achievers team and became Champions for Cricket. Tap Rugger finals was a very close one as many institutes who took part had very strong teams even comprising some National level players. Wisdom defeated Achievers team at the semi finals and qualified for the final round with a team comprising students from University of Sri Jayawardanepura where the battle was ended in a draw. Both teams were awarded Joint Championship for Tap Rugger. Wisdom Students also won the Best Decorated tent award at the CIMA Sports Day final judgements.
Setting another milestone in CIMA history, Wisdom Business Academy emerged Overall Champions of CIMA Sports Day 2009, and this title was secured by Wisdom, for the second consecutive time in the history of CIMA Sports day records.
Being the Largest CIMA Institute in Sri Lanka and the Second Largest CIMA institute in the World, Wisdom Business Academy is proud to announce this victory of their students and has once again proved beyond doubt that they are “The Leader in CIMA Education in Sri Lanka” guiding students not only in their academic excellence, but also their leadership and other extra curricular activities which helps them become “Tomorrow’s leaders”.

WISDOM TEAM EMERGES WINNERS IN THE CIMA MIND CHALLENGE 2008

The CIMA Mind Challenge was held at Waters Edge on 27th April 2008, where the team from Wisdom Business Academy successfully became the winners of the competition beating the Dialog Telecom team at the final round by a mammoth margin of over 100 points. The CIMA Mind Challenge is a mastermind quiz competition testing various knowledge areas of students, not merely confined to the CIMA curriculum, but also covers questions from several areas including current affairs, general knowledge, CIMA curriculum, entertainment, sports, business affairs etc. Leading commercial establishments in the business and financial sectors participate in this annual event, which is organized by The Chartered Institute of Management Accountants Students Society (CIMASS). It is praiseworthy to note that Wisdom Business Academy has emerged champions of the CIMA Mind Challenge in four occasions and runners up once since the 2002
This year the event was held in two rounds and 26 teams from the mercantile sector establishments such as Amba Research, HSBC, Dialog, Ernst & Young, SJMS participated competing with the teams from leading CIMA institutes. In the first round the participating teams completed in a table-quiz which comprised 6 rounds with 10 questions in each round and the teams had to answer the questions in a paper based format. At the end of the First round 8 teams were qualified for the Second round leaving out 18 teams in the audience. The second and final round was on a direct answer basis and there were 80 questions presented to the participating teams, where the team answered through their captains at the press of a buzzer. Wisdom Quiz Team took the lead by achieving 215 points with the utmost challenge, defeating the other teams by maintaining a lead of 100 points with the Dialog Team who became Runners up.
Wisdom not only focuses on the academic activities but also provides opportunities for its students to improve their soft skills in various disciplines such as quiz competitions, debates and other social events. The Championship at the CIMA Mind Challenge 2008 is another milestone of their numerous achievements which adds on to the success story of Wisdom.

Charity Project 2008



The “charity project 2008” organized by the Wisdom Business Academy, was held on the 7th of March, at the Children’s Convalescent Home, Ragama.
The objective of this annual event was to focus the attention of the students of WBA and their parents to the needs of the less fortunate children of our society. The Students’ Society played a major role in carrying out the project in areas of selecting a suitable charitable organization, informing the students, collecting funds and purchasing and collecting stationery and other articles.
The Students’ Society together with the patron Mr. Thilak Mendis, Mr. Chinthaka Wijayaratne – Operations Manager, the lecturers, staff, the Wisdom king and queen and the students who took part, made sure that the children of the Convalescent Home had a memorable day filled with fun and laughter.
Events for the day included games for the children of the home as well as the students of Wisdom, lunch, and a cricket match between the staff and the students, which was followed by a prize giving where each child received a gift pack consisting of a Wisdom bag, exercise book, pens, pencils, erasers, colour pencils, crayons, pencil cases, instrument boxes, bed sheets, pillow cases, nets and toys…
The Society wishes to thank all the students, lecturers, staff, well wishers for their support and participation in making the event a successful one.

Wiz Nite 2007
“Wisdom Nite 2007”, was yet another mega event organized by the students of WBA. It is an annual event which brings together all the students, lecturers & staff of Wisdom Business Academy to enjoy, relax & interact with each other.
The organizing committee, selected by Mr. Thilak Mendis (Patron, Wisdom Students’ Society) & Mr. Chinthaka Wijayaratne (Operations Manager), was challenged with organizing the event with short notice of about two weeks. The Committee came together from almost all the batches of Wisdom & they became a team, a family that made the almost impossible - possible. They were successful in collecting over Rs. 500,000 from sponsorships & ticket sales. The surplus of the Dinner Dance was to be allocated for the annual Wisdom Charity Project.
The Wisdom Nite was held at the Mt. Lavinia Hotel on the 17th of December 2007. The turnout at the dance was over 200. The distinguished guests included Mr. Bradley Emerson – CEO, CIMA Sri Lanka Division and Directors of Wisdom Business Academy. A special appreciation was made to Mr. Clancy Peiris by the Students of Wisdom for becoming the No. 1 CIMA lecturer in the world. The annual prize distribution for the prize winners at the CIMA examinations too was held. The other exciting events included the crowning of the Wisdom king and queen, the raffle draw, and the baila dancing competition.
‘Wisdom Nite 2007’ could be tagged as one of the most successful events in the history of Wisdom. The hard work, dedication & the team effort of the organizing committee was evident at the night & they went on to form the Wisdom Students Society 2008/2009.
